Our online donation platform and the donation services therein are meant to be used by residents of the UK aged 16 or over (for more information, please see Soccer Aid’s T&Cs). However, if you access our online donation platform from outside of the UK, please be aware that certain jurisdictions may not allow us to rely on the need to comply with the Soccer Aid terms and conditions to use your personal data but, instead, require a different legal basis (for example, to process your online donation, to contact you if your online donation hasn’t been processed, to process queries and/or refunds relating to online donations).

If that is the case and you have managed to incidentally gain access to our online donation platform from outside of the UK, and we cannot rely on the necessity to fulfil the Soccer Aid terms and conditions, then, if you were to donate through our online donation platform and applicable laws require that we obtain your consent to collect and use your personal data, by donating in our platform (which requires you to actively fill in your information and agree to the donation by clicking the relevant buttons throughout our user journey), you consent to your personal data being used to process your online donation, to contact you if your online donation hasn’t been processed, or to process queries and/or refunds relating to online donations.

Will we send you marketing?

You will not receive any marketing communications from ITV or UNICEF UK as a result of making a donation unless you have provided your consent to do so as set out below.

When making a donation online or if adding Gift Aid through the SMS microsite (the web page which allows you to add Gift Aid if you make a donation via SMS text), you will be asked whether you are based in the UK and would like to receive further information via email from UNICEF UK about Soccer Aid for UNICEF and its work for children and other ways you can support. Where you have indicated your consent to receive this information from the charity by ‘opting in’, your name and email address will be passed to UNICEF UK and used in accordance with the UNICEF UK privacy policy available at Unicef.uk/privacy. You can change how you hear from UNICEF UK at any time, either by using the unsubscribe link included in every email or by contacting UNICEF UK’s Supporter Care team

What are your rights?

Any personal data you supply will be treated in accordance with applicable UK data protection laws and any other applicable or superseding legislation. We are committed to respecting the rights that individuals are entitled to under applicable data protection laws. These are:

  • The right to be informed of the personal data we collect and process about you and how we do that (this Notice does this).

  • The right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. To do this, please email us using the email address set out below making clear that you are requesting a copy of your personal data and including full details of what you require. You may also be required to submit a proof of your identity.

  • The right to withdraw your consent for your personal data being used for direct marketing. Where required we will ensure we obtain your consent before undertaking marketing and you will have the ability to opt out. Where you have opted in to UNICEF UK’s marketing, please contact UNICEF UK’s Supporter Care team to opt out.

  • The right to object to your personal data being processed where the legal basis for the processing is our own legitimate interests as a business or as permitted by applicable data protection laws (see ‘How will we use your information?’ section above). We will comply with such a request unless there is a lawful reason for not doing so, such as when we need to continue to process your information to defend a legal claim.

  • The right to rectification. You may request that we correct any inaccurate and/or complete any incomplete personal data.

  • The right to withdraw consent. Where we are processing your personal data on the basis that you have given us your consent to do so, you may withdraw your consent at any time.

  • The right of erasure. Where permitted by UK data protection laws, you may request that we erase your personal data and we will comply, unless there is a lawful reason for not doing so. For example, there may be an overriding legitimate ground for retaining your personal data, such as keeping your payment information to comply with HMRC requirements.

  • The right to data portability in certain circumstances.

  • The right to restrict processing in certain circumstances.

  • The right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority. We suggest that you contact us about any questions or if you have a complaint in relation to how we process your personal data. However, you do have the right to contact the relevant supervisory authority directly. To contact the Information Commissioner’s Office in the United Kingdom, please visit the ICO website for instructions.

If you have managed to access our online donation platform from outside of the UK, and you donate, your country of residence may grant you additional or different rights regarding your personal data. We endeavour to respect applicable rights where mandated by applicable law. For specific questions about your rights under your local data protection laws, please contact us at myprivacy@itv.com

Data transfers outside of the UK

We process as much of your personal data within the UK or the European Economic Area (“EEA”) as possible.  Some of our service providers who help operate Soccer Aid (for example, Stripe, which takes payment from your account for the purposes of your donation or Loqate - GB Group plc, which collates donors’ address details to help donors simplify the entry of addresses), process your personal data outside of the UK. In these instances, we ensure that, your personal data is sent to a country with an adequacy decision issued by the UK government and/or that the appropriate safeguards are in place as required under UK data protection laws.

This means we only transfer your personal data where it is permitted under UK data protection laws. The main transfers take place if:

  • the UK government has determined the country has an adequate level of data protection,

  • standard data protection clauses (which have been ‘adopted’ by the UK government or European Commission) are in place with the service provider or third party, or

  • we can rely on one of the specified exceptions.

We may also take steps to identify and use additional protections as appropriate for each data transfer. For example, we may require the use of technical protections, such as encryption and pseudonymisation (which means making sure personal data can no longer be linked to you without the use of additional information)

Please be aware that your personal data will be processed in the UK and/or the EEA, and depending on your location and if you manage to donate online, different data protection laws may apply to your personal data. To find out more about how we safeguard your personal data, please email myprivacy@itv.com.

What are cookies and similar technologies?

This section describes how cookies and similar technologies are used to support our service and the controls which may be available to you. These are used on our website.

  • Cookies are small text files stored by your browser (a browser is the software on your device which enables you to access the internet). The cookie stores a unique identifier (a string of random characters) so that your browser can be singled out from other browsers to show you the information you want (for example, the episode of the programme you want to watch on our streaming service). And it is often used to link your browser to databases that hold data about your online behaviour and inferred interests, along with other data such as your IP address or device ID.

  • Other types of storage, such as local or “HTML” storage. Some of our services use local storage technologies that are similar to cookies but enable larger amounts of data to be stored. This means we can store information like your preferences on your device rather than on our own systems.

  • Pixels are embedded code to recognise your browser and record your interactions with emails, online content or ads.

From now on we will refer to these technologies collectively as ‘cookies’. Cookies are typically used by websites or where apps have embedded web browsers which allow them to access the internet.

Why do we use cookies and what types of cookies do we use?

Essential: These cookies are necessary for our service to work. Without these cookies, we can’t provide you with the core service of our online donation platform and SMS microsite (the web page which will allow you to add Gift Aid if you make a donation via SMS text).

These cookies do not gather information about you that could be used for marketing or remembering where you've been on the internet. Without them, the online donation platform or the SMS microsite would not work. Because these cookies are essential for our website to work properly, the law says that we don't have to obtain your consent to set them. You can't turn them off on our website, but you may be able to turn off these types of cookies through your browser settings (but if you do, our website might not work properly).

We don't use any advertising or tracking cookies, nor do we use any web beacons, clear GIFs, page tags or web bugs on the online donation platform site or the SMS microsite.

For how long do we keep your personal data?

We keep your personal data where we have an ongoing legitimate or lawful need to do so. For example,

  • processing your donation,

  • complying with our legal, contractual or regulatory obligations,

  • resolving complaints.

When we no longer have a legitimate or lawful need to keep your personal data, we will delete it or anonymise it.

How do we keep your personal data safe?

We're committed to protecting your personal data and keeping it secure, private and confidential. We put in place appropriate technical and organisational measures to help protect the security of your personal data. Unfortunately, no measures can ever be completely secure. We have implemented various safeguards to protect against unauthorised access and unnecessary retention of personal data in our systems. These include pseudonymisation, encryption, restricting access, and retention policies.

Third-party websites.

Websites linked to, or from, our online donation platform, may be subject to separate terms of use (including separate privacy notices, separate cookies notices and separate cookies preference managers that you can access and review on those websites). The inclusion of a link to any such website or third-party website does not imply endorsement of the linked site or service by us or our affiliates. These third-party websites will be governed by different terms of use (including privacy notices) and you are solely responsible for viewing and using each such website in accordance with the applicable terms of use. We are not responsible for how your personal information is handled by such third-party websites.
